POSITION GUIDE AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Position Title:  High School Assistant Principal/Instructional Facilitator

Contract: 210 Days

Salary: Per Administrative Salary Schedule

Primary Function:  

Position is responsible for assisting the school principal in the planning, organization, administration, and management of an assigned secondary school. Position assists with supervision of staff, creating a safe environment, monitoring instruction and other duties associated with the successful operation of a secondary school.

Illustration of responsibilities and key job duties:

Assist the secondary school principal in the general administration of the school. 

Assist with interpreting and enforcing all school board policies and administrative regulations. 

Assist in establishing the school’s student discipline plan and the school’s plan for ensuring a safe and orderly environment. 

Assist the school principal in ensuring that the school’s policies and procedures related to student discipline referrals and discipline action plans meet state, federal, and division requirements.

Assist the secondary school principal in the supervision and performance evaluation of staff assigned to the school. 

Assist in collecting and reviewing data regarding the school’s performance and in planning with the principal for continued improvement. 

Assist in the child study and eligibility process. 

Perform classroom observations and conferences with teachers to improve the instructional program. 

Coordinate the preparation of student discipline review documents as required by School Board policy. 

Conference with parents/guardians of students concerning discipline, attendance, behavior, and student academic performance. 

Conference with students referred for violations of the student handbook, administer disciplinary action as necessary, and notify parents/guardians of action taken. 

Consult with student services personnel to find long term solutions to inappropriate student behavior. 

Monitor halls, school grounds, and student movement to ensure a smart, safe environment at the assigned school. 

Attend and supervise after-school, evening, and weekend school sponsored events and activities as assigned. 

Direct the development and implementation of Student Success Plans. 

Seek ways to develop and sustain a climate of mutual respect between and among the students and adults who participate in the school.

Prepare related reports and records as required by the school division, local, state, or federal government. 

Stay informed of developments and research pertaining to safe, smart schools. 

Model nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.

Encourage teachers in the use of new methods and materials.

Assist in the handling of day-to-day problems of instruction and acts as a resource person for teachers.

Coordinate activities of the teaching team.

Ensures that district staff development requirements are met.

Special Assignments:  

The assistant principal may be asked to perform tasks not specifically stated in this position guide if deemed necessary and reasonable to support the orderly operation of the school and the Bald Knob District.

Organizational Relationships:  

The assistant principal will respond to the building principal and the superintendent while working in coordination with other administrative staff.

The assistant principal will be evaluated by the building principal according to the requirements of Arkansas Department of Education, State law, and any specific District policy.
